A. No, you don’t need a battery. The electricity that you purchase or sell doesn’t need to be stored. You buy it as you use it or sell it as you produce it.

A. No, your current electric meter will do.

A. Yes, you just need to be responsible for the electricity bill.

A. Yes, you can buy or sell electricity to and from your friends and family, as long as they also sign up for the Community Power Club.

A. Yes, you need to sign up with Localvolts. This process will happen seamlessly after signing up with Localvolts. They will let your current provider know and there will be no interruption to your electricity supply.

A. Localvolts charges a fixed daily fee. Localvolts does not make a profit from the sale of electricity. They do pass on costs such as for the use of the grid.

A. No. So anyone can try it out and go back to their electricity provider without any penalty.

A. Because Localvolts is so different to any other company it is difficult to get a direct comparison. However, from our experience, Localvolts is a bit cheaper than the others. With the Club discount and other benefits provided to the Club we expect members to be much better off. The benefits should also increase as more members join.

A. There’s nothing to prevent you from joining Localvolts directly. However, if you sign up directly with Localvolts, you will not receive the exclusive discount that is available only to Club members.

A. No. You need not spend any time buying or selling energy. You can simply rely on the default settings to buy or sell electricity at the spot price and you should still be better off.

A. There is an annual membership fee of $60 (Including GST). After the Localvolt discount, it is effectively only about $20. The membership fee is refundable pro rata if you decide, for whatever reason, to leave.
